Was actually feeling the same. :(

But moved cheerfully to Windows 7 the day after. :)

I remember holding out with Windows 2000 for sometime before finally upgrading to XP. It's funny how you get attached to things.

So true John.  Once I find an OS that works for me (after personalizing it of course) I'm always loathe to change to a 'newer and better' one ... and drag my heels until forced to do so for one reason or another.  I use Windows 7 Pro at work and at home and am very comfortable with it ... but this past weekend I bought a new laptop which I could of course only get with Windows 8 on it.  After 48 years in the IT business I'm nothing if not adaptable but learning yet another operating system's foibles and way of doing things is getting old as I age.  Guess I could go to Linux or Mac but I live in a Windows world at work so that makes no sense for me right now.

Anyway I'll keep Windows 7 as long as I can and see what happens with Windows 9+ I guess.

I switched to Linux as my primary desktop because every keystroke/mouse click somehow resulted in me pulling out my wallet.  :( The most refreshing aspect of switching to Linux is that I have the option to go as deep into the source as I need/wish to. I got tired of debugging Windows issues only to find out it's been a long standing bug MS just haven't got around to yet. I really hope the new MS CEO can pull off a 180 before it's too late.

FWIW:  Win 7 is actually a big improvement over XP and the little things like previews of what is on the task bar by just hovering the mouse over the tabs is a nice feature. The rest has taken on a more polished professional look. I know it's still ugly under the covers but the makeover has made it tolerable to use again.

I have to wonder if the announcement of Heartbleed and the end of life of XP are somehow related? Just in case you thought no updates wasn't scary enough.

Microsoft just released the fix for IE and even for XP. It was cool seeing something I thought I would never see again. A Microsoft update for XP.

Never say never.  :)
